In Defense of Wokeness: Why Racism and Bigotry is the true threat to our Democracy
In the month of October, the United States accepted zero refugees in this country. None. We didn’t take anyone in. By most estimates, there are 70 million refugees throughout the world, due to wars and the effects of Climate Change. Yet, America, the shining city on the hill, didn’t let any refugees come here.
This country has always had a problem with marginalized groups: Black people, Native Americans, women. This is probably because those in power, or those that want to stay in power, understand that the best way to stay in power is to create a system where no one else can gain power. The most effective way that this has happened is by stopping people from voting, with the occasional mass murder here or there. This system of institutional oppression always feels just barely acceptable by most Americans. The abuses aren’t wide spread. Those affected seem to be either poor or uneducated. And, as long as you have food in your stomach and a roof over your head, why do you care about anyone else? The United States asks very little of its citizens. Mainly, the collective conscious of this country requires that you shut the fuck up and not complain too much. This goes for either political party.
